Head of Operational Risk Management 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Operational Risk Management to join our team. Reporting directly to the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer, this role will be based in the European Union and will play a pivotal role in managing operational risk for our regulated companies and as well as the entire group which operates in multiple jurisdictions including the US and Australia. You will be responsible for overseeing operational risk across the business and multiple geographies and will need considerable knowledge and experience of current best practice risk management, methodologies, and emerging practice in relation to technology and financial services (banking and payments). 

About you 

• Extensive risk management experience from operating within a regulated environment; Previous experience in a Head of Risk role, ideally a Senior Management Function (SMF) for Risk.

• An awareness of Risk Management Frameworks as applied to a regulated business and to API platforms.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills (e.g., risk reporting, drafting / presenting reports, providing clear feedback and guidance to business owners / senior manager level / board level).

• A proven ability to work well in an intercultural environment with a global perspective.

• Demonstrated integrity, good market knowledge and awareness and commitment to deliver good outcomes.

• Strong technical skills particularly in working with technology and IT solutions to manage risk, analyses and reporting. 

• Strong knowledge of SQL or another programming language is an advantage.

• Experience with positive stakeholder management at all levels of the business but in particular with engineering and product professionals.

• Strong organizational skills and a strong attention to detail.

• Self-starter with the ability to design, implement and embed effective risk management frameworks and related activities.

• Flexible and willing to embrace both change and technology in a dynamic business environment.

What you'll be doing at Banked

• Identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks within the EU-based regulated company, ensuring compliance with UK and EU regulations and guidelines.

• Work cross-functionally with teams in other jurisdictions and timezones to create a cohesive global risk management framework, sharing best practices and ensuring consistency in risk assessment and mitigation efforts across the business.

• Conduct regular risk assessments, prepare comprehensive risk reports for senior management and regulatory authorities, and provide recommendations for risk mitigation strategies.

• Develop and execute stress testing and scenario analysis to evaluate the company's resilience to adverse events and identify areas for improvement.

• Oversee the assessment and management of risks associated with third-party vendors, ensuring that vendor relationships align with the company's risk appetite.

• Develop and maintain an effective incident response plan to address operational risk incidents promptly, minimize their impact, and prevent recurrence.

• Implement, manage and maintain a risk assessment methodology for the group including liaising with key stakeholders to gather input for risk analyses across functional areas. Produce a monthly heat map of key risks the business faces as well as mitigation strategies and controls.

• Produce clear reporting to senior management and the board to inform clear decision making in relation to risk.

• Collaborate closely with other key functions, including Compliance, Legal, Technology, and Operations, to ensure a holistic approach to risk management.
