Summary

Bird Buddy is on a mission to reconnect people with nature through beautifully designed smart bird feeders and companion technology. Our business combines physical product manufacturing with software recurring revenue from our connected ecosystem. With operations spanning multiple countries, and manufacturing currently based in Asia, Bird Buddy is building the financial backbone to support our growth.
We are seeking a hands-on Chief Financial Officer to join the executive leadership team. Reporting to the CEO and working in close partnership with the COO, this role will be responsible for shaping the company’s financial strategy, overseeing short- and long-term planning, managing cash flow, leading equity and debt fundraising, and building robust financial models to support the company’s continued growth.

This is a highly engaged role with a strong external focus. The CFO will spend significant time working with investors, lenders, and financial partners, negotiating terms and providing financial leadership on decisions that materially influence the company’s direction and performance.

Location: This role is based in European timezones (+-3 GMT), with willingness to travel regularly to the Slovenian office in Ljubljana.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the company’s financial planning, forecasting, and financial modelling to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Own short- and medium-term cash flow management, including rolling 6–12 month forecasts and proactive liquidity planning.
  • Define and execute the company’s overall financial strategy in close partnership with the CEO and COO.
  • Lead equity and debt fundraising initiatives, including investor and lender materials, negotiations, and due diligence processes.
  • Serve as the primary financial representative of the company to investors, lenders, and external financial partners.
  • Build, maintain, and leverage strong relationships with banks, venture capital firms, debt providers, and supply-chain financing partners.
  • Design and implement effective working capital and inventory financing strategies to support global operations.
  • Lead refinancing and other capital structure initiatives as required to ensure adequate runway and operational flexibility.
  • Negotiate supplier terms and payment structures to optimise cash flow and working capital efficiency.
  • Oversee financial systems, reporting, and performance dashboards, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and relevance.
  • Establish and maintain robust financial controls and transparency across geographies and functions.
  • Strengthen the finance organisation, processes, and operating cadence, including regular financial reviews and forecasting cycles.
  • Act as a trusted business partner to senior leadership, providing clear financial insight to inform key decisions.

Key Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in senior finance roles, such as FP&A leadership, corporate finance, investment banking, or equivalent positions.
  • Must have working knowledge of GAAP principles and U.S. accounting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial planning, advanced financial modelling, and complex forecasting in dynamic business environments.
  • Proven experience leading equity and debt fundraising processes, including investor relations and capital markets engagement.
  • Strong track record managing cash flow and financial operations within a physical product business, ideally with exposure to global manufacturing, logistics, and supply chains.
  • High level of proficiency with financial systems and tools, with the ability to build clear, decision-oriented models for both lenders and equity investors.
  • Experience structuring, negotiating, and managing debt facilities, refinancing initiatives, covenant compliance, and working capital solutions.
  • Ability to operate effectively across blended revenue models, including hardware margins and SaaS or recurring revenue components in a B2C setting.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the credibility to represent the company to boards, investors, lenders, and external partners.
  • Commercially minded and proactive, with the ability to anticipate challenges and drive solutions in fast-moving environments.
  • Comfortable operating in environments with evolving priorities, distributed teams, and cross-border complexity.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel frequently and engage globally as required by the role.
