In this role, you will have a key responsibility in getting products of the company from laboratory to harvest, and ready for export. This is an important role to deliver the final part of the gene editing pipelines for the various crops our company works on. It involves being aligned with several laboratory teams on what work needs doing on a weekly and monthly basis, and independently plan, prioritise and carry it out or delegate it if required. You will communicate with colleagues and external service providers on what is happening in the programmes and update all involved on any progress or changes.In this role you will:- Be responsible for all aspects of plant growth once plants progress to the CE and glasshouse stageThis includes:- Acclimatize plants resulting of the tissue culture pipeline- Plant care on a day to day basis, conditioning, sowing, repotting, discarding, pollinating, harvesting, plant husbandry, fertilising- Compartment maintenance, environmental monitoring, pest monitoring, turning around compartments- Programming and calibrating cabinets & equipment- Assist researchers with experimental data gathering, meeting the needs of individual projects- Processing fruit for seed extraction- Curate the germplasm database in collaboration with scientists- Optimising growth conditions for new crops- Be a central point of contact between horticultural services team and the company- Long term planning of glasshouse and CE space, adjusting as the company prioritizations change- Keep oversight of glasshouse work that’s done per project, independently schedule it in- Adhere to the rules and regulations for growing GE/GM/Prohibited plants and work according to local SOPs- Assist with grow season and phytosanitary inspections of plant material- Be responsible for maintaining tidy, clean and organised compartments that adhere to local standards- At times, support the lab technicians with miscellaneous tasks supporting their operationRequirements:- A degree in Plant Biology or a qualification/relevant experience in horticulture.- Experience of working with plants in a glasshouse environment.- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.- Demonstrable numeracy skills.- Exceptional attention to detail, precision and accuracy, documentation skills and accurate record keeping.- Great organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise, organise and coordinate a range of tasks simultaneously.- The ability to follow and create written protocols and instructions.- A self-motivated, flexible and proactive approach to work, working under your own initiative, working during public holidays if required.- Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
