We're looking for a Head of Facilities and Laboratories to manage our pilot facility in central London.

As Head of Facilities and Laboratories at Hoxton Farms, you will oversee our cutting-edge pilot production facility, laboratories and office in central London. You will lead a dedicated team to support ongoing R&D and production, quality management, procurement and strategic planning. Every day you’ll play a critical role in bringing cultivated fat to market and creating a deliciously fatty future.

Based at the HYLO Building in London, our state-of-the-art HQ, opened in 2023, spans 14,000 sq ft and includes a 1000 L pilot production facility, extensive R&D labs, a professional kitchen, hardware workshop and a beautiful office. As our Head of Facilities, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading day-to-day lab and facilities operations such as inventory management, ordering, equipment installation and maintenance
  • Overseeing a world-class quality management / quality assurance system comprising risk assessments, SOPs, food safety plans, batch records, quality reports, CoAs and environmental monitoring. You’ll work closely with our Quality team to build safe, compliant, market-ready production facilities for cultivated fat – in London and beyond.
  • Managing laboratory operations technicians, R&D technicians and procurement specialists
  • Strategic planning including designing new buildings and facilities, ensuring regulatory and statutory compliance and planning our long-term growth to industrial scale
  • Taking responsibility for our facilities and laboratories budget including laboratory purchasing, managing suppliers and vendors and procuring new capital equipment
  • Managing critical utilities including HVAC, plumbing, temperature monitoring, gas and LN2 banks, cell banks and access controls
  • Managing pilot plant utilities including bioreactors and SIP/CIP infrastructure, water filtration and waste disposal
  • Acting as the company Health and Safety Officer

You must have at least five years' experience in facilities management in the ATMP manufacturing, fermentation or brewery industries, including:

  • Running, maintaining, designing and commissioning production facilities
  • Tendering and procuring capital equipment and infrastructure; purchasing and supplier management
  • Coordinating health and safety in an industrial research and production environment
  • Excellent working understanding of utilities and facility management including HVAC, MEP, compressed gases and cold storage
  • Electronic lab notebook (ELN) and laboratory information management system (LIMS) management
  • Line management and leadership
  • Familiarity with microbiology, cell culture or bioprocessing

You should have experience in some, but not necessarily all, of the following areas:

  • Familiarity with cell biology and bioprocess engineering
  • Good laboratory practice (GLP)
  • Good manufacturing practice (GMP)
  • NEBOSH Health and Safety Level 6
  • Quality management systems (ISO 9001)
  • Laboratory automation
